And always thought this game used "hyper-modern" strategy?<br />I felt the movie had a lot of strategy to it. from the calculations of the opening, making toast to the endgame that relied on more intuition. damien redmond - LLCMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13713610945241616699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-32634847621061505612009-11-26T23:37:38.332+00:002009-11-26T23:37:38.332+00:00On a similar point presumably Lopez (as in Ruy) is...On a similar point presumably Lopez (as in Ruy) is not pronounced the chess way by anybody else.Comment Moderatorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15608482649497750456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-55921033216786218082009-11-26T20:59:48.152+00:002009-11-26T20:59:48.152+00:00Yes, the plus point is that Caine does indeed pron...Yes, the plus point is that Caine does indeed pronounce Pirc correctly (as only about 1 in 50 competition chess players seems to manage). So the language coach did a good job. I get sick of hearing 'Peerk' and 'Purk'. Mind you, we all get 'fianchetto' wrong (it should be pronounced 'fianketto') - I've only ever heard one UK player get it right in 40 years! And, not wanting to be different from everybody else, I carry on getting it wrong myself...John Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11304541586486571258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-13717327267390822792009-11-23T19:04:59.943+00:002009-11-23T19:04:59.943+00:00Your reasoning is too subtle for the film methinks...Your reasoning is too subtle for the film methinks T.C.<br /><br />oh and re: Pirc - I believe that's correct yes (but I could possibly be wrong)Jonathan Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00293162543015231439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-54749073866643626362009-11-23T12:16:39.826+00:002009-11-23T12:16:39.826+00:00Is that really how you pronounce 'Pirc'? And: what makes you think the script-writers made a mistake ---- as opposed to the script writers didn't want to imbue their character with good powers of memory recall? He seems doddery!Tom Chivershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09850710685193416732noreply@blogger.com
