Think I might be able to get in the Japan side, so perhaps should go there (wouldn't be the first Englishman to do so).
AndrewAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-84352155458847999222007-12-17T15:56:00.000+00:002007-12-17T15:56:00.000+00:00Presumably if we'd been born in other countries (w...Presumably if we'd been born in other countries (well, SOME other countries) we'd not be likely to be as good chess players as we are give that we're from Britain.

(lack of opportunities, lack of competition, etc etc).

Perhaps we should club together, buy our own island, and enter the olympiad as our own nationality?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-80142404467956769992007-12-17T14:56:00.000+00:002007-12-17T14:56:00.000+00:00Andrew - did you ever play when Abnet Bekele was p...Andrew - did you ever play when Abnet Bekele was playing for us? Despite having a rating that is nothing in Britain, I would make the teams of around half the countries in the Olympiad. Looks like I could also make the Jamaica team. Watford chess club used to have a member of the Zimbabwae team, who couldn't make the Watford first team! There are probably about 20% of 4 board olympiad teams, that wouldn't make the 12 board Streatham 1st team.
AndrewAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-30739271301695585602007-12-17T13:20:00.000+00:002007-12-17T13:20:00.000+00:00I spoke to him last month as he was preparing to l...I spoke to him last month as he was preparing to leave Stockwell Station and asked him What Grade would Jamaicas No 1 be .
