There are, after all, rather a number of St. Benedict's Schools, and there were perhaps even more back in the early 1970's.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-12002419453376574482012-07-16T14:38:02.501+01:002012-07-16T14:38:02.501+01:00There's some more information about chess in B...There's some more information about chess in Broadmoor (and Ian Brady) at http://ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4362&p=93824&sid=8d6f3d2764973fff45bda0651b0e89cd#p93824Richard Jameshttp://www.richardjames.org.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-53696543875858461132011-11-26T21:16:19.329+00:002011-11-26T21:16:19.329+00:00More to the point, imagine what the front page of ...More to the point, imagine what the front page of the Daily Vile would look like.ejhhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01582272075999298935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-19036054753806344192011-11-26T20:39:03.671+00:002011-11-26T20:39:03.671+00:00How interesting that they played a school. I didn't play in the first match in 1970, the one reported by Alan May. My three appearances were on 25 November 1972 (39 years and 1 day ago), a win against G Wiora on Board 2, the game you published, November 1973 (no date on scoresheet but probably Saturday 24th) a draw v Laszlo Varga on B1, and 22 March 1975, a win v L Varga again on B1.

I would guess that there was also a match in 1971 which I didn't play in (I was away at college at time time), and that the 1974 match was postponed until 1975.

Not that it matters, but I note that you spell Mr Wiora's first name Günther and Günter.

Coincidentally, I heard from Alan May the other day, for the first time for more than 30 years, concerning the DJ Groen trophy, which some readers might remember. Alan gave up chess on marrying a bridge player, but has returned to action in the last few years playing for Dorking. There was another Richmond trophy around at the same time, the Bodycoat Cup, which was used for the 2nd division of the club championship, so I was inspired to do some research into Groen and Bodycoat, which produced some interesting results.Richard Jameshttp://www.richardjames.org.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-23501975277884230642011-11-26T15:24:33.187+00:002011-11-26T15:24:33.187+00:00Well, not really... but *I'd* have been tempte...Well, not really... but *I'd* have been tempted.Jonathan Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00293162543015231439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37675897.post-62383633824812819712011-11-26T15:03:33.720+00:002011-11-26T15:03:33.720+00:00“As we all trooped back to our respective houses a...“As we all trooped back to our respective houses at the end of the evening I could not help suppress the feeling that some of the interlectual (sic) “so and so’s” we have among us have been shown up in their true colours…

Which, dear reader, is exactly how the captain responded to S&BCC's recent 11-0 + 1 adjourned result against Wood Green!Jonathan Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00293162543015231439noreply@blogger.com
