I played Peter Ackley at MIST tournament last week, or maybe the week before, in the room at the top of the Exmouth Arms in Starcross Street - Kings Head's old venue. There is a resident cat in the pub, who was sat on the window directly behind him, and would occassionally stretch a paw out. This rather disturbed Peter: but rather than move the cat we, naturally, moved our game. Oh for a camera.
The cat seems incredibly placid Andrew. Even when it's walking, it looks asleep. More than anything else, to me it resembles a meandering cushion. What on earth did it do to you!?
You assume wrong: she bites and scratches. She also likes to chew books, taking as big a chunk as she can: she has put tooth-holes through the first two dozen pages of the Raetsky/Chetverik book referred to here.
Maybe there is a different cat now. In a Middlesex game about 5 years ago it came close to my board and I went to stroke it- it bit me!Having said that both my cats occasionally bite me whilst purring and generally being very friendly. Andrew

ReplyDeleteI've met that cat: a black and white tom. A particular cat-lover who normally plays in that tournament is Feliks Kwiatkowski.
