World Championship Stats

OK, I know table 2 is the only one that really matters but still, I find some of these results interesting. What really stood out for me was:-

  • Morozevich's erratic performance

  • Leko's stability

  • the closeness between the best and 6th best performance with White.

Results marked in blue are improvements over the relevant benchmark comparison, those in red show things going in the wrong direction.

Especially interesting that the worst white score was still 50%.

Indeed, and only one player lost a game with the White pieces -

Aronian against Anand (round 2) and Gelfand (round 12)

The two players who performed worst (and relly pretty badly) with the Black pieces - Morozevich and Grischuk - were my heros of Mexico since they fought hard in just about every game.

Interesting that in the new ELO list (not shown in main story), Ivanchuk is second (presumably with his highest ELO yet) and Topalov only fourth.

On the subject of Topalov, his fan site has just restarted, after a three months silence.

Apparently, the silence was a "silent protest against all the decisions around Elista and the obvious denial of the truth."

Did anyone notice?

Does that even make sense?

"restarted" ... very close to "retarded" when you think about it.
