Updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday ... and maybe other days too.
Due to the extreme weather conditions in Wijk aan Zee, the commentary session in the Corus Chess pavilion is cancelled today.
Shirov - van Wely is currently (oh hoh hoh) very stormy!I think Wijk aan Zee translates as something like 'place by sea' so they are probably getting hammered by these atrocious storms worse than we are. Parts of the streets outside my office are now closed off due to damage, even!
When you say "we"....
. . . . I meant, London/UK!I'm sure in Spain it's currently shorts and suncream weather, as ever . . . .
Svidler was all at sea today.
How very annoying - I'm out of weather &/or geographical analogies for now. If only lightening would strike!
It transpires that the pavilion is actually a tent, which information perhaps makes the impact of the weather rather easier to understand.Does anybody else remember the USSR v Rest of The World match in Docklands in 1984, where commentary took place in a tent?I believe the inhabitants of Zaragoza are known here as los jorobados ("the hunchbacks") because the wind is so strong there. I forget what Zaragoza people call people from Huesca, though it's got something to do with being stupid.
I don't - I was 7!
