Jan Timman question

Jan Timman lost a FIDE world championship match to Anatoly Karpov in 1993, a match played in four different cities. But to whom did he lose a world championship match played in St Petersburg in 1980?

Not bad at all!

In fact the answer is Melekh Gaystik of the Einstein Chess Club of Sitka, in Michael Chabon's novel The Yiddish Policemen's Union.
